Cognitive Kits

Cognitive Kits help support the skills and abilities of people living with dementia and other forms of cognitive impairment. Our collection of unique kits contains an assortment of activities that encourage social engagement and success with daily activities.

Kits are free to borrow.

Outreach

If you work for a nursing or retirement home in the City of Kawartha Lakes and think that residents would enjoy regular library visits for book exchanges, we would be happy to arrange these visits.

Senior Programs

Join us for programs designed for older adults, including:

  • Social Hours for games and conversation
  • Guest Speakers on helpful topics
  • Crafts & Activities to get creative

Technology Support

Need help with your computer, smartphone, or tablet? We offer free one-on-one tech help at many of our branches.

  • Book a 30-minute session with library staff to get comfortable using your device
  • Appointments are required

  • Accessible collections (e.g., large print, audiobooks)

  • Accessible service point desks (various branches)

  • Access to the CELA collection (Centre for Equitable Library Access)

  • DAISY Victor Readers

  • Magnifying sheets

  • Large print keyboard (Lindsay Branch)

  • Low vision magnifier reader (Lindsay Branch)

  • Height-adjustable computer desk (Lindsay Branch)

  • Marlena Books (for readers with dementia or Alzheimer’s)

Reading Supports

If you find standard print difficult to read, we have options that may help:

  • Large Print Books – Easier-to-read versions of popular titles

  • Audiobooks on CD – Listen to your favourite books

  • Adult Literacy Collection – High-interest, low-vocabulary books to support learning

  • Marlena Books – Designed for people with dementia or memory challenges
